Uniforms have the remarkable ability to foster a sense of belonging among individuals within a school. By wearing the same attire, people are visually united and can feel like part of a cohesive team. This shared visual identity can instil a sense of pride, loyalty, and camaraderie amongst our young people, creating a strong bond and a feeling of inclusivity. Ultimately, uniforms can help individuals feel connected to something larger than themselves, fostering a sense of belonging that is essential for building a positive and supportive community.

Closed in shoes must be worn to school for safety. New uniforms can be purchased at Administration and our sizing and price list can be found here. Please ensure that all uniform items are labelled clearly with your child’s first name and last name.

We encourage all young people to wear their uniform but also acknowledge that there can be anxiety around sensory sensitivities and concessions can be made to make the uniform more comfortable.

In 2024 we will be refreshing our uniform with a new logo and colours. To assist families in the transition from the old uniform to the new uniform there will be a three-year transition period where young people can wear the old uniform. From 2028 all young people will have completely transitioned to the new uniform. Our uniform will be navy shirts with the new The Sycamore School logo in teal and white.

The Sycamore School acknowledges that there are different ways in which the community talks about autism – some use identity first or autism affirming language, ‘Autistic person’ and some use person first language, ‘person with autism’.  Here at The Sycamore School we believe that our young people should be celebrated for their strengths, that they are valued and empowered to be proud of the unique capabilities’ autism brings to their life.  The Sycamore School is using autism affirming language.

We would like to acknowledge the Quandamooka people, Traditional Custodians of the land our School is on, and pay our respects to their Elders, past, present and emerging. We extend our respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples throughout Australia.
